I Samuel 16:7
“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
We often consider this passage in the context of Samuel making a decision on a rush but we often forget that Samuel had been a prophet of the Lord for many years before this event. To a very good extent, it is safe to say that Eliab met some of the basic requirements to be an anointed of the Lord.
Nevertheless, there was a disqualifying issue with his heart. Although he met Samuel’s physical evaluation of who an anointed king should be, he fell short of God’s inward evaluation.
It is good to be a Christian on the outside but it is more important to God if you are a Christian on your inside. Your pastor or spiritual father’s approval doesn’t guarantee your inward status. It is only God who can evaluate every believer’s heart. Make it a priority to please God from your inward to your outward appearance this week and beyond. God bless you
