You must forgive

DevotionsYou must forgive

Text: Matthew 18: 21. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22. Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

The act of forgiveness might seem very difficult, but it is God’s will that we forgive our offenders and forget the offense.
As Jesus taught us to pray in Mathew 6:12,
He said; Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.
To obtain mercy and pardon from God, we must first forgive those that have sinned against us.

Do you know that when you refuse to forgive, you’re only adding more worries and pain to yourself?
No matter how hard it might be, you must forgive.
God did not tell us, He commanded us to forgive.
Forgiveness is a true act of love.
Letting go refreshes our spirit, it gives us hope for a new and better beginning.
When we forgive, we enjoy the beautiful fragrance of God’s peace and love in our heart.
From our Bible text, Peter wanted to know how many times he was supposed to pardon an offender and the Lord told him in reply,
“Forgive 70×70”.
In Jesus’ word, He never meant a real multiplication of seventy by seventy, rather He meant, forgive as much as you’re being offended.
There is no end to forgiveness.
If God can pay our big debt of sin by sacrificing Jesus the son, what is an ordinary offense that we cannot let go?
If you read on in that same Matthew 18, Jesus explained further with a parable as He shared of a King who forgave a servant who owed him a great debt, but as the servant saw a fellow servant that owed him just a little, He imprisoned him until he would pay.
But when the King learned of It, He punished the unforgiving servant and told him,
“If I would pardon your great debt, why shouldn’t you pardon another who owed you very little”
And in conclusion, Jesus said, Matthew 18: 35. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Unforgiveness will deny us of God’s blessings and above all, eternal rest.
Is it murder?  You must forgive.
Is it betrayal? You must forgive.
Is it rape? You must forgive.
Is it gossip? You must forgive.
Whatever be the offense, God is telling us today to forgive.

Prayerfully present those times and people to God and say, “Lord I forgive them, with the offense (mention it).
If also there are people you must Call, please contact them and let them know that you have truly forgiven them because Jesus has told you today to forgive.

I pray! May God strengthen you and give you the Grace to forgive in Jesus’ name.
