Who are your friends?

DevotionsWho are your friends?

Text: 2 Corinthians 6: 14. Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Friends are the closest people to our life.
The friends we keep has the capacity to build or destroy our destiny.
As a believer, it is not expected of you to yoke with sinners.
When the Bible talks about yoke, it means sharing intimacy, having things in common with unbelievers.
Stay away from friends that gossip, friends that walk against the will of God.
If your friends will not pray with You, worship God with You, walk uprightly and positively with You, then they don’t deserve your friendship.
For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness the Bible says.

Growing up as a child, I discovered that most wrong path I took was because of the company I kept.
As I was influenced, I also influenced others, until I encountered the savior.
A tree is known by its fruit the Bible says, for a good tree does not bear bad fruits neither would a bad tree bear good fruits. Luke 6:43-45.
We must be mindful of the association we keep.
Run from an association that discusses evil and plot mischief for they are enemies of God.
Run from an association that sheds innocent blood.

Most marriages are broken today because of the counsel of a bad friend.
How would a married woman seek marriage counsel from a spinster who knows nothing about marriage?
How would a married man seek counsel from a playboy bachelor who knows nothing about marriage?
What business has Eagle to do with a vulture?
Why would an iron run to a wood for sharpening?

When the Bible tells us that iron sharpens iron. Proverbs 27:17.
Note that the same friends that would lure you into mischief, will not be there to suffer the consequences of your mistake with you.
Let’s learn from the Holy Scripture.
The Bible tells us of King Rehoboam who lost the kingship dynasty of David after he forsook the counsel of the elders and carried out the counsel of his friends. 1 Kings 12.
Yes while we were sinners, we yoked with sinners but now we are saved and we must say NO to the works of evil and sin.
Ephesians 5:11 tells us; And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Never counsel what you are meant to cancel.
Evil communication corrupts good manners the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:33.
What you accommodate, accommodates you.
What you entertain, entertains you.
Until we get Jonah out of our boat, our boat will never sail.
In Daniel 2:17-18, the Bible tells us on how Daniel sought his friends to pray with him so God would reveal the dream of the king to him. And when they did, the answer came.
Are your friends praying with You?
A good and godly association will help us fulfill purpose and destiny but a wrong association will abort our destiny.

Stay with friends that remind you of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Stay with friends that love you unconditionally.
Stay with friends that will not lure you into sin.
Stay with friends that are purpose driven.
Stay with friends that are hardworking.
Avoid lazy friend, for laziness begets all sorts of evil.
Stay with friends that are also friends of God. John 15:14-15.
