WALKING WITH GOD IN A GODLESS GENERATION

ArticlesWALKING WITH GOD IN A GODLESS GENERATION

Genesis 5:18-24

When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 And after he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.
21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more because God took him away. (NIV)

Last week we saw that the generation we find ourselves in today is a challenge for every believer to walk with God like Enoch. The truth is that it will not be easy to walk with God in this godless and evil generation. This is because the world always presents an attractive affection with a promise of utopia. Just as the serpent sold to Adam and Eve that eating the tree of knowledge of good and evil will make them be like god.
These things beckon every day on us as a cheap alternative to walking with God. Walking with God does not come easy but it is a must for his people.

Walking with God, therefore, takes personal desire and determination as Daniel took while in the land of captivity. He desired and determined not to defile himself with the things that are not right. Desired success comes with determination as Daniel indeed never defiled himself and his impeccable character and religious piety were testified by the people (Dan. 1:8; 6:2-5). When we desire, we must have the determination to accomplish the desire. It is not enough to desire to walk with God but such desire must carry the determination to do so. Daniel desired and determined to walk with God wherever he found himself and that he did.

Walking with God takes knowledge for one that will walk with God must be able to know his identity. Jesus said that those that believe in him are not of the world (Jn. 15:19). In 1Jn. 4:4 apostle John writes ‘Ye are of God, little children,’ which makes it imperative for every believer to walk with God. Those that have the identity as children of God and have made God their father in this world are to walk with him daily.

This week I pray that the desire and determination to walk with God will come upon you.

I pray that you will stand out for God like Daniel wherever you go in the name of Jesus Christ.
