Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee
It takes the word of the Lord for a man to overcome sin. Romans 12:2 encourages us to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. Transformation here has to do with reshaping our minds into that of Christ. This is important because for you to overcome sin, you must be transformed.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2)
Jesus tells us we are no more of this world to conform to its standards, rather we are seated with him in high places giving glory to the father. So therefore, it is our responsibility as children of God to long for transformation.
Transformation does not happen overnight, it comes with the renewal of the mind. Titus 2:11-12 confirms how the grace of God teaches us to say no to all ungodliness. The grace of God is the revelation of the person of Jesus. In other for you to be transformed, your mind must be renewed. The renewal of the mind comes only through Jesus.
A common saying “what will Jesus do?”. Knowing what Jesus will do in situations come from knowing him personally. Studying about him, having fellowship with him in prayers, songs, meditations etc. will reveal more about him to you. As you learn more about Jesus and desire to do his will, your mind will be renewed. This renewal leads to transformation. A transformed man does not struggle with Sin, he has power over sin because the Truth which comes only from knowing Jesus has been revealed to him.
Develop intimacy with Jesus through Prayers, thanksgiving, meditation, dedication, studying of his word and conscious service to him. For there is no transformation without intimacy with Jesus. When you have intimacy with Jesus, you overcome sinful desires.
