Unforgiveness

DevotionsUnforgiveness

Matthew 6:12-15

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The sin of unforgiveness is a serious one. Jesus Christ teaching his disciples says “If you do not forgive men their sins, your heavenly father will not forgive you. For this reason, Matthew 5: 23-24 says “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift

We cannot deny the fact that forgiveness can be sometimes very hard, especially when you are treated with cruelty for something you do not deserve. When you face such a situation where forgiveness seems to be hard, take some time out to talk with the Holy Spirit about how you feel. In His presence pour all your grievances and cry out your bitterness asking Him (the Holy Spirit) to comfort you and give you the grace to forgive.

An open heart asking for Gods help to forgive a hurt will definitely receive help.

Ability to forgive comes from God. Jesus thought us it is possible to forgive even the worst offense. When severe pains were inflicted on Jesus, instead of hating and cursing them He cried out to God to forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. Jesus recognized the they were tools in the hands of the devil, He recognized the enermy was the devil and not them. Stephen also cried same when he was being stoned to death.

We need to know that unbelievers/lukewarm christians are vulnurable to be used by the devil in causing pains to people. For this reason, we must endeavour not to nuture unforgiveness against people rather settle the matter with God in prayers, for the bible says God is a just God he will repay.

Is there someone you have not forgiven? Take sometime with God, talk to him about how you feel and ask Him to help you forgive such person.

Prayer:

I pray that you receive strenght to let go of all pains that might have lingered for long. May the peace that comes from God alone flood your heart giving you the ability to forgive. Amen
