DevotionsThe Lord My Ebenezer

Text: 1 Samuel 7: 12. Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

Origin and Etymology of ebenezer. Hebrew ebhen hā-ʽezer stone of help.
God is our stone of help.
He is always there to help His own.
God has promised never to forsake or leave us. Deuteronomy 31:6.
No situation is too big for God to handle.
He is our rock and fortress. Psalm 18:2.
Psalm 27: 2. When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

From our anchor Chapter in 1 Samuel 7, the Bible tells us of how Israel was at first discomfited by their enemies who had captured the ark of the Lord’s covenant.
When the ark was returned by the captors, it was yet recorded that the battle never ended as the philistine sought for an opportunity to smite Israel.
God was not pleased with Israel at that time, as they prostituted themselves by worshipping other gods.

1 Samuel 7: 3. And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

As they repented and turned to God, the Bible recorded that as they were still gathered together in the place of sacrifice, 1 Samuel 7:6-7, the Philistine came to attack them.
Just as their enemy drew closer, Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it for a burnt offering unto God.
1 Samuel 7: 10. And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

It was the Lord’s battle and He fought it all by Himself.
It was also recorded that Israel recovered all the cities their enemies had stolen and forcefully taken from them. 1 Samuel 7:14.

Today, we don’t need another High priest to offer another Lamb sacrifice before God our Ebenezer would fight our battles.
Once and for all, Jesus the Lamb of God took our death and pain on Calvary, arose again to give us victory. John 1:29.
What God expects us, is that we turn from our wicked ways, repent and seek His face.
In the same way Samuel led the Israelites to repentance, and God intervened and fought their battle, God wants us to walk uprightly with Him.
Our Ebenezer is always there to help those who are His.
Psalm 24 tells us;
Psalm 24: 3. Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4. He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

I pray for You, that as you sincerely decide to walk with God in truth and in Spirit, sins hold over you be broken completely in Jesus name.
Power to live above weaknesses and sin be released unto you in Jesus name.
Call on Jesus Ebenezer Today, He is always there to help you.

Shalom.
