The Golden Rule II

DevotionsThe Golden Rule II

Jesus Modelled The Golden Rule He Gave (1 Peter 1:22-25)

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.[a] 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,

“All people are like grass,
    and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25     but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[b]

And this is the word that was preached to you.

🎴The Golden Rule remains “Do for others what you want them to do for you,” or “Treat others the way you want to be treated” Humanly speaking, it is difficult for the natural man to initiate something good for others. However, natural impulses make us be nice to those that are nice to us. At other times, we would likely be vengeful, angry, or hurtful. This is man!

🎴Yet Jesus clearly teaches us to love even when those around us seem unlovable. Initiate good things even for the unlovable. Be mindful of their emotional, physical and spiritual health.

👉🏽Jesus lived out the Golden Rule:

❤️He so much loved us that He died for us while we were still His enemies (Rom. 5:8). Thinking deep about what He did, we too, as God’s children, can do the same, that is, loving the unlovable and initiating good for them.

🎴Consequently, responding to unkindness with love, leads to great blessings in our lives and the lives of those we show love to.

👉🏽 What are the blessings that follow the Golden Rule?

1: God is pleased. This phenomenon brings joy, peace, and a sense of accomplishment to us.

2: God works for good in our relationships when we obey Him.

3: The Holy Spirit works in us to enable us to flow in the divine love that touches even the unlovable.

4: John 13:35 tells of an important benefit: Jesus said, ´By this, all men will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another.´ Since unconditional godly love is uncommon in our world, people will notice.

5: You will have peace of mind. Obeying God gives joy and a certain indescribable sensation on the inside.

🎴 Treating others as we want to be treated builds deep, satisfying connections that all people desire.

🎴 Without significant relationships, life lacks meaning, regardless of how many possessions or acquaintances one has.

🎴So think about your relationships; are you treating them the way that Jesus modeled?

Shalom and Maranatha!
