Separation

1 Peter 1:15 – 17

But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: “Be holy because I am holy.” Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, live your lives in reverent fear during your temporary stay on earth.…

Holiness in the new testament means set apart. When something is set apart that means it has been chosen out of a collection and separated for a different usage. God in his mercies has called us out through Jesus Christ into a chosen generation (1 Peter 2:9). Just as He called Abram out from his people and declared so many blessings on him, God has also made so many promises available to those He has called to be separated.

Before the death of Jesus, this call was made just for the nation of Isreal. Praise be to God for the death and resurrection of Jesus, this call has been extended to anyone who makes Jesus Christ the lord of his/her life.

Having been called out, God expects us to live a Holy life (Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, Romans 12:2). Jesus Christs puts it this way “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to” (Luke 13:24), this tells us we must endeavor not to stain ourselves with sins, we must strive to remain set apart.

Do not be deceived! the devil will not fold his hands and watch you stay Holy, he will send baits to get you down. But we must be vigilant always reporting all to God in prayers. Remember what Jesus said, “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subject to violence, and the violent lay claim to it” (Matthew 11:12).

Brethren, you must be violent! Do not lie down struggling with the sin of fornication in your head, do not sit back watching that anger, grieve, malice or wickedness take hold of you. Kill the sinful desires of your flesh through prayer and fasting, equip your spirit man through hymns, prayers, fellowship with brethren and studying the word of God.

Never think you will fold your arms and watch Christ pull you out of that sin, you must show your willingness to be saved by taking the right steps
