Possible reasons behind an unproductive prayer part one

Text: James 4:3. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

There are many physical and spiritual factors that could possibly hinder the prayers of believers.

We must understand that it is not the will of God that we seek Him in vain.

Most times, the reason behind an unanswered prayer is not God’s problem, but ours.

Sometimes we fail to also understand that “NO” can also be an answer from God and we keep plugging in without heeding to His own will.

Today we’ll discuss three reasons that could hinder the prayer of a believer.

  1. Faithless approach to God in prayers.
  2. When we live and pray without faith, our payers would not be productive. He that comes to God in prayer must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him the Bible says. HEBREWS 11:6.

Faith tells us that even when there is no substantial proof of our prayer request, we do believe that what we have hoped and prayed for, will surely happen. Faith gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

    The Bible further explains it this way;

JAMES 1:6-8 Kjv. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Do not waver or doubt if God could possibly grant your requests, these things will yield nothing.

When fear tells you how impossible your request would be, faith reminds you of who you are praying to.

For our faith to grow, we must embrace God’s word because the absence of God’s word, is the bankruptcy of faith.

Faith cometh by hearing God’s word the Bible says. ROMANS 10:17

From this scripture, we see that faith is only invited when we study God’s word.

The first hearing which is the logos, will not produce enough faith, therefore we hear, and hear again the word of God.

Hearing until it becomes a Rhema, it becomes real, until it speaks to you until the letters start healing your scars then faith grows.

    2.  Sin

  3. Sin is another factor that hinders the result of our prayers. If there is unconfessed sin in your life, I encourage you to start by confessing that sin to God and asking Him to forgive you. The Bible promises that when you do that, He will forgive you completely and fully (1 JOHN 1:9). Then go to God with the knowledge that your sins are forgiven and the confidence that God is big enough to hear and respond to your prayers.

You may not notice His answer right away, but He will answer. The answer might not always be yes either. He knows what’s best for us, and sometimes He says no for our own ultimate good. But you can count on it that He will hear you and that your prayers will make a difference.

Sin hinders the move of God causing a big barrier between us and God.

The Bible tells us how sin separated Adam and Eve from God in the garden.

But we must understand that when we confess our sins before God, He refreshes us, and gives us a new start with Him.

Confessing your sin to God means acknowledging the fact that indeed you’re sorry and equally surrendering your entire self to Him.

Would you desire to see even the smallest of your prayer words and groaning yielding great result?

If you do, then you must desire intimacy with God, avoid these sinful activities of life that will harm you and equally hinder your prayers.

    3. Selfishness

  4. People selfish in their thoughts and prayers will not generate a positive result in their prayers.Selfishness affects the productivity of our prayers.

When we pray, we must put to death every work of self-will and pray the will of the Father.

It is not wrong to make a personal prayer for some specific things and issues but the motive behind such a prayer matters a lot.

    For whatsoever that is of God must be worthy of prospering both physically and spiritually. The Bible speaking on this says;

PROVERBS 10:22 Kjv. “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”

3 JOHN 1:2 Kjv.  Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Your prayer motive is the driving force to the result of your expectation.

You’re praying for a car, what is your motive behind it?

Praying for business what is the motive behind it?

Jesus teaching on prayer taught us to pray the will of the Father on earth as it is in Heaven.

Crucify your flesh and seek after the will of God.

A selfish attitude to prayer will not yield a great result.

Selfishness is a baby attitude, God expects us to be matured spiritually.

You pray and you don’t receive the Bible says, why? Because you pray to satisfy the lust of your flesh. JAMES 4:3.

God desire we seek Him more than any other thing in life.

A man that seeks God and His righteousness lack nothing good. MATTHEW 6:33.

A man that prays the will of God will find pleasure, success and great result in whatever he does.

I pray God strengthen you and empower you even more than ever before in Jesus’ name.
