Psalm 56

56 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.

Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

10 In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.

11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.

13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

🔥 Do not fear is a great advice to frightened people in the midst of adversities. Can it find a deeper meaning related to our Christian life? Obviously, it is impossible to live in Nigeria, in particular, and in the world at large, without facing uncertainties, doubt, confusion, and even honest fear. The Bible does not dismiss these concerns. Instead, the Word is truthful about the adversity that we face in our existence on earth.

🔥What then is the right response to these adversities? The right response to these hardships is not to hide our fears, as some do, but to admit them to the Lord and trust that He will work the situation out for His own glory and our good (Psalm 56:11; Romans 8:28).

🔥Hiding our contrarieties and not admitting them, but saying hypocritically all is well is known as escapism. It is not Christian, it is rather living in lies. It is not confession negative, as some portray it to be, rather it is living in reality.

🔥What we sometimes fail to realize is that God may desire to use those hardships to shape us into the persons He wants us to be. Adversity is an opportunity for God to purify our faith, because He alone is Sovereign in the universe. He desires to be Sovereign in our individual lives as well.

🔥If we place our faith in God, He will be willing to remove those obstructions that hinder our walk with Him.

🔥If you are going through adversity/hardship, pray for the discernment to ask yourself, “Does God allow this to occur in my life in order to bring me closer to Him?” If so, trust Him to reorder your life so He may remain Lord of your faith.

🔥No doubts, sometimes it is difficult to see the hands of God in our hardships, like persecutions, hunger, harsh economic situations, etc. But God knows it all; and as His children, our duty is to rely on Him for help and directions; He will never forsake nor abandon us (Hebrews 13:5).

🔥 Remember, every hardship we did not cause by ourselves, has a divine purpose. Look for that purpose and trust in the Lord for the lessons He intends. Be joyous because the Almighty God knows everything about you Do not forget, His Second Advent is fast approaching – do not flicker in your faith. God, bless you!

Shalom and Maranatha!
