Our Debts Are Cancelled

DevotionsOur Debts Are Cancelled

Colossians 2:13-14

13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

📌 Mankind has a debt problem. In the physical world, our desire for a higher standard of living and more stuff in our houses has led to burdensome borrowing and unwieldy mortgage payments. The weight of what we owe can cause restless nights and the feeling that we are trapped. We long for someone to rescue us from the mess we have made.

📌The same phenomenon is replicated spiritually. The debts we owe, we cannot pay, but glory be to God, they are now paid by Jesus Christ through His vicarious death on the cross.

📌When we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour, His atoning work is credited to our account. We become children of God and co-heirs with Christ as we are changed from debtors to inheritors. (See 1 Peter 1:3-4.)

📌Let the knowledge of His sacrifice on the cross permeate every aspect of your life, your thinking, attitude, and choices.

📌Let your thinking be controlled by the Holy Spirit because the mind is the control room of our lives. When the devil gets hold of our minds, he controls us. Therefore, let your thoughts be focused on things above, so that you can be more useful on earth.

📌Let your attitude reflect your faith in Christ. One’s attitude points at what one believes. Emulate Christ in all you do.

📌Let your choices represent you Christlike attitude as a Christian. Our choices are indications of whom we really are. Our choices are controlled by our beliefs and worldviews. If you are a Christian, allow the Holy Spirit to influence your choices in life.

Shalom and Maranatha!
