Looking Unto Jesus

DevotionsLooking Unto Jesus

Matthew 14:27-32

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Can we fix our eyes totally on Jesus without looking sideways? İt seems difficult but it is possible with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Peter was with Jesus but he found it difficult to constantly focus on Jesus even at the presence of Jesus, how much more we that believe by faith without seeing him physically?

But here is something so interesting and loving to talk about, The Spirit Of God who lives inside of us bearing witness that we are the sons and daughters of the Most High God helps us to fix our gaze on Jesus. But to achieve this, we must recognize, surrender and rely on the Holy Spirit.

As we journey daily, do we lose focus on the cross because of the troubles of this world? Take a moment, reflect on situations that seem difficult in your life, those situations you think are impossible to solve. Remember, Peter was drowning when his eyes were away from Jesus. Jesus is calling you today to fix your eyes on him without looking sideways.

“Cast your burden on the Lord,

And He shall sustain you;

He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”

Remember, to overcome every impossibility there must be Jesus. Only when we realize that we can’t win our battles without Jesus, we will continue to drown in the impossibilities.

Prayer: Ask God to come and take charge of every situation that seems impossible and ask the Holy Spirit to help you focus your eyes on Jesus. Hebrews 12:2
