Living water

DevotionsLiving water

John 4: 10

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.

One day a Samaritan woman met Jesus at the well and her story changed forever. I can imagine how difficult it was for her to go up to the mountains perhaps every day just to get some water. This faithful day she met a man telling her about living water: water that will run dry in her.

Many times we engage ourselves in unproductive ventures. We seek peace, love, help, support and so many good things in the wrong places. Whereas, these things we desire are found in Jesus. The Samaritan women sort to be fulfilled by marrying several men, yet she was never fulfilled until she found Jesus at the well.

What do you seek dear reader? life on earth without Christ is never satisfying. No matter how much you drink of the water of wealth, health, physical success, fame, education, pleasure, etc. You will never be satisfied, it will run dry. We all know death is the surest thing for all men and no one leaves the world with anything.

Death is an assurance that the water the world gives will definitely run dry

But the water Jesus gives will never run dry. It is sufficient to see you through your journey on earth and unto eternity. As Jesus told the Samaritan women “If only you knew the gift of God”. Friend, do you know the gift of God?

Jesus is the gift of God poured out for all men. Ask him for the living water today by inviting him into your life as your Lord and savior.

Prayer to receive the living water:

Lord Jesus, I thank you for your work of salvation. Your death and resurrection have given me access to the Father. I ask for forgiveness of my sins. I receive you this day as my Lord and personal savior. Give me the living water, be the Lord of my life from today and forever more. Amen
