Keep Watch

DevotionsKeep Watch

Text: Matthew 13: 25.

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

To keep watch means, to be awake, alert and ready for any situation or battle.

As Christians; we are soldiers of Christ.
Christianity is more than a religion, it’s a replica of the life of Christ.
Our Faith as Christians, makes known the life of Christ on earth.

We must therefore understand that what we practice is not a funfare, it’s a deep spiritual warfare.
As soldiers of Christ, we must be ready spiritually, in and out of season. (2 Timothy 2:4).

A believer who has refused to keep watch, will soon be a prey to the enemy.
From our main Text, we are told of a man who had suffered, toiled all morning and day, sowing good seeds, but just as He went to sleep, the enemy came in and sowed tares.

This scripture gives us the exact explanation on what happens in the life of a believer.
Many believers work hard spiritually for a certain achievement, it could be a job, marriage, studies, etc, but when they get the job employment, start the business or the new family, they slack in their spiritual activities, creating an opening for the midnight farmer the devil.

As Christians and soldiers of the cross, it is of a great responsibility and importance, that we keep watch.

The midnight farmer;
Hates that family bounded in God’s love.
Hates that business that supports the Gospel of Christ Jesus.
Hates that believer who does the work of an evangelist.
His mission has always been to steal, kill and destroy.

But When we keep watch;
We become spiritual  territorial commanders.
We are protected from falling into temptations.  Luke 21:36.
We are never taken unaware by our adversary that moves like a roaring lion. 1 Peter 5:8.
We are tuned spiritually to the heavenly frequency that helps us access an attack before it comes. Ezekiel 3:17, 33:7.

How do I keep watch as a believer?
1. By praying. Prayer is an important armor of a believer. We must build our prayer life, and daily keep the fire on our altars burning. Leviticus 6:12-13.
We must abstain from whatever that will put off the fire of God in us.
When the prayer life of a believer goes down, there’s every possibility that the devil will start fighting such believer with all sorts of attack, starting from afflictions, oppressions to temptations of every kind.
Therefore as a true soldier of Christ, you must keep watch in prayers, day in, day out.

2. By Studying and living by the standard of God’s word. When we study and apply the word of God, it brings the full manifestation of God’s word in reality to our life.
Failing to apply God’s word, will deny us the power of the word.
The word of God gives us the believers kind of lifestyle. It reveals who we are and how we ought to live as God’s children.

In conclusion, God wants us to represent Him perfectly as His chosen and ambassadors on earth, therefore we must “Keep Watch”.

My prayer for you reader, is that the Lord will help your weaknesses and cause your faith to grow.
