4 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Imagine standing before God and arguing your Holiness, reminding Him of how many sins you had avoided on earth and the reason He should allow you into His kingdom. What response do you think God would give you? do you think a man can be Holy without the help of God? Talking about the Help of God, David speaks about those God refuses to impute sin to. The New Internal Version describes them as people the Lord will never count their sins.
You may ask “but God is a just God, why shouldn’t He count the sin of certain people?” Yes, the Justice of God has been fulfilled by the sacrifice of Jesus. Those who God will never count their sins are those who believe in Jesus. Just as it is written of Abraham; Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. (Romans 4:3).
Do you believe in Jesus’s death and resurrection? Believing in Jesus is believing in God!
Remember, if you believe in something there is a change in your attitude. For example, if I believe driving at night is bad, I avoid driving at night. Also, if you believe in Jesus (God) it must show in your way of life. Jesus said, ” If you love Me, you will keep My commandments (John 14:15).” Keeping Jesus’s commandments is a great way of showing you believe in Him.
Have you failed in keeping Jesus’s commandments?
Do not be afraid, for you are a legitimate child of God (Romans 8:15). Run to your father in prayers and repent earnestly from that sin. Pauls says “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13).
Two important things to note from Pauls message:
- You must always seek to grow by moving on (Forget the guilt of your sin, confess and repent)
- Never leave the plow: keep pushing (Then Jesus declared, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and then looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9: 62)
May God bless you as you remain in His grace. Amen
