Text: Luke 12: 20. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Pride is devil’s strategy of destroying lives.
The Bible tells us that at every fall of a great man there’s always a trace of pride and haughtiness. Proverbs 16:18.
The same way the pride of devil led to his downfall, was the same way the humility of God’s son Jesus Christ, gave Him a name above all names.
In Lucifer’s words, the Bible tells us in,
Isaiah 14: 12. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13. For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Many are boastful and proud of their yearly income that another uses as a weekly tithe.
Many are proud and boastful of their achievements, academics, ministerial and in their haughty nature and words, they acclaim the praise and glory to their effort.
All of these are meaningless, like chasing the wind.
Why would you be proud of what has been, what is before you came and what will still be when you’re no more? Ecclesiastes 1:9.
The Bible tells us on how Christ humbled Himself unto death, despite He was equal with God yet He taught it not robbery.
And God EXALTED Him and gave Him the name above all names. Philippians 2:6-11.
We must emulate Christ and have the same mind as Christ. Philippians 2:5.
Don’t kill yourself by your own pride and arrogance.
I have seen many killed by wicked men because of a display of foolishness and pride.
Humility will save you and keep your lips from careless words.
A great man is not known for arrogance but for actions.
Let’s learn from the mistake of the foolish rich man according to our Bible text, who was full of pride and arrogance.
In his words, He was so self-confident and acclaimed all his success to his strength and wisdom.
As I read through that story, I noticed the repeated personal exclamation of his personality, “I”
Luke 12: 17. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18. And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
But when God visited him, the Lord reminded him that He still has power over his soul and because of his pride and arrogance, his soul would be required of him.
Many of us are like this rich man.
But today God wants us to repent of this destiny killing virus called pride.
Enough of “do you know me”? For you’re Nothing, mere clay that is what you are.
Give Glory to God for His works.
Don’t let the miracles of God in your life, your ministry and temporal possessions of life build pride in you.
Don’t destroy your soul by your own hands.
May God help us to live a life humility in Jesus’ name.
