My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
🎚️We saw from the last Reflection that God protects His children from dangers. In today’s Reflection, (verses 3-8) we shall see the characteristics of God as our keeper. ´He who keeps you will not slumber (v. 3).
🎚️Many gatekeepers and security agents sleep on duty, and sometimes in that period of sleeping, the enemy strikes. But Our God, the one who shields us does not sleep. If God sleeps, even for one minute, the whole universe will collapse, and He will no longer be God.
🎚️He is always alert and attentive to our cries, even when our feelings seem to tell us otherwise.
🎚️ ´The Lord is your keeper … He will keep your soul´ (vv. 5, 7). A keeper of precious and costly things is expected to protect them too. Someone who takes care of a baby, for instance, is expected to protect and provide for him/her. Imagine our heavenly Father as He takes care of His own children. He is always alert to keep us.
🎚️Someone asked me, “How can you say God keeps and secures us; even common sense tells us that God is very far away from us, the evidence is the unprecedented bloodshed we have in Nigeria?” Yes, it seems so, but God is Sovereign and He is All-knowing
He Shields and preserves us physically and spiritually in His own way. We might not know what He does until He opens our inner eyes.
🎚️Secondly, God also restrains us from wrong thoughts, harmful words, and inappropriate actions, in the midst of crises.
🎚️His Holy Spirit gives warnings to keep us from evil, and He also provides guidance so we will grow in godliness.
🎚️ ´The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever(v. 8). God is sovereign. He is with us always, protecting, pointing the way, and teaching us. He accompanies and leads even in the small tasks that seem insignificant. We never leave the precious love and care of our heavenly Father.
He is our Shield, Keeper, and Protector. God is our keeper, and He cares for us better than any earthly mother or father ever could.
Shalom and Maranatha!
