‘Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.’ Psalm 34:8 (NIV).
King David encouraged us to drink deeply of God’s pleasures and know for ourselves the joyous mercies He gives. The more intimately we experience our Heavenly Father, the more convinced we become of His goodness towards us.
Hagar, Sarai’s maid-servant, was ill-treated by her mistress and fled into the desert to find refuge (Genesis 16:7).
An angel of the Lord appeared before Hagar bring consolation and encouraging her to return to Sarai. The angel also told Hagar that the Lord had heard her ‘cry of misery’ and promised her a son, Ishmael.
Hagar responded in Genesis 16:13, ‘You are the God who sees me, for I have now seen the One who sees me.’ Hagar had intimately experienced God’s mercy and goodness.
God is the Living One who sees us and longs to participate in our lives.
He is training us to find Him in each moment and to be a channel of His love.
Sometimes His blessing comes to us through pain and trouble, as it did for Hagar. At such times we can know His goodness only by drinking deeply from the delight of being in His presence.
Be Greatly Blessed!
‘Lord, in my pain and struggle I come to you to receive all I need to move me through these difficult times. Lord show me your goodness as I take refuge in you. Thank you.’
In Jesus’ Mighty Name,
Do we find ourselves in places of pain and difficulty just now?
Have we been rejected or hurt by another, struggling, just as Hagar did, after Sarai treated her badly?
Know that these are the times we need to not flee from the Lord, but rather run towards His open arms. In His presence we can drink deeply from the well of refreshment and comfort that He generously offers to us.
In doing so we will discover for ourselves that the Lord is good and we will be blessed as we take refuge in Him.
