Text: James 4: 8. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
You never know a man or learn about an object, by observing from a distance.
One reason why most people are privileged to know and say lots of beautiful thing about their parents, spouse and loved ones, is because they share intimacy together.
Failure to draw closer to people would limit our knowledge about them. We would only take other people’s opinion about the fellow.
Today God wants to establish something more than a relationship with you.
God wants to be intimate with you.
And in His words according to our Bible Text, it says; Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.
Our knowledge about God will not be deep if we keep a distance from Him and hear only when preachers tell us about Him.
When we draw nigh unto God, we would see not just the JIREH nature of His personality but the loving, the compassionate, understanding and fatherly nature of His personality.
He loves even the wicked.
He wants to share our burden. (Isaiah 43:2, Matthew 11:28).
He is calling unto us, to come learn of Him.
God wants us to be intimate with us.
The point of intimacy comes when we share the Lord’s burden.
It might sound strange to you when I tell you that God has burdens, He suffers pain, heartbreak, but until we draw nigh, we would never know.
As King David in the Bible drew nearer to God, he realized that God was not just a deliverer, but also a friend he could talk with every time and hear Him talk back at him.
David offered a sincere worship to God.
How do I know when I am far from God.
1. When it becomes a burden to study God’s word.
2. When we grow lazy and faint in the place of prayer.
3. When I enjoy sin and worldly activities more than righteousness and Godly activities.
4. When I enjoy the company of unbelievers and despise the gathering of believers.
5. When I gossip and backbite other believers.
Whatever activity that contradicts God’s word and standards, tells us that we are far or gradually losing our place of relationship with God.
How do I draw nigh to God?
Our Bible text tells gives us the answer, it says;
James 4: 8. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Cleanse your hands ye sinners, meaning we must acknowledge our sin, repent and sincerely walk with God.
Again It tells us to purify our hearts, meaning we must daily and continually feed our lives with purifying agents after repentance.
The word of God is a good spiritual purifying agent that would keep our heart on things that are pure, holy and acceptable. Philippians 4:8-9.
Would you want to repent of your sins and begin a sincere walk with God?
Say these prayers by Faith,
I acknowledge I am a sinner for my sins are not hidden before you.
I confess all of my sins to you this day.
I believe you died on the cross and rose again to set me free.
And I confess you this day as the Lord and personal savior of my life.
I denounce the devil every work of the flesh.
Wash me with your blood Jesus.
You’re welcome into God’s family.
I pray an open heaven of divine revelation on your real identity and directions on your new faith that gives you hope for tomorrow in Jesus name.
