Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
One good thing about “denying” is that it’s an inevitable part of life. People deny themselves of different things for different reasons. These reasons include medical, academic, career, moral, faith, societal, etc. In fact, there is no existence without resistance to certain things.
Jesus speaking in today’s text encourages us to deny ourselves daily because of our faith and follow him. Before you think this is a lasting burden, consider the things you deny yourself in order to have the so-called perfect shape. Remember the sacrifice you have made and you are still making to climb up your career ladder. Recount the things you’ve had to stop or endure in order to have a healthy life.
Just as you have lived a life of resistance to different things either consciously or unconsciously, Jesus is calling on you today to deny yourself of certain things daily and follow Him closely. Remember, this is a continuous commitment. May the Lord bless and help you deny yourselves of world lust and follow Jesus daily.
