II Timothy 2:1-5
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.
🚶♀️ The journey to heaven is a battle. A believer in Christ must engage in it. There are no shortcuts or cut-corners in this journey. We must be ready to engage the devil head-on in it. In 1 Timothy 6:12, Paul calls on us, as God’s children, to ´fight the good fight of faith.´
🚶♀️Like the First-Century Christians, believers in this Century are in a three-front war, namely:
🔫War against the flesh,
🔫War against the world system, and
🔫War against Satan himself.
🚶♀️The use of the word “war” is a good reminder that believers must prepare for everyday spiritual battle. This battle has a lot to do with our spiritual perspective and how we obey the Lord’s injunctions.
🚶♀️ A good Christian soldier depends entirely on the strength of Christ for this spiritual war. The Lord stands by the believer (II Tim. 4:17).
🚶♀️ The Holy Spirit provides the courage and power to obey God´s commands, in this battle, so we can rely on His might to carry us to victory against the aforementioned enemies.
🚶♀️The Church possesses the good news about salvation and all the riches of God’s Word.
🚶♀️Many people have listened to biblical teaching and experienced the Lord interceding in their lives. To keep those lessons to oneself can leave unbelievers in jeopardy and deprive fellow Christians of necessary wisdom. In other words, believers in Christ must share with unbelievers the good news of their salvation and with believers the goodness of God to them.
🚶♀️As we all know, hardship is a part of the battle and, thus, a part of the Christian experience. Believers will endure adversity and be asked to make sacrifices. Therefore, it is not surprising that Paul reminds us to stand strong in the Lord and to uphold others (II Tim. 2:1-2).
🚶♀️A wise commanding officer gives his soldiers words that encourage their hearts and direct their steps. Paul did the same. He admonished believers to ´Remember Jesus Christ”(II Tim. 2:8). In this battle, we must remember Jesus because the battle is His, therefore, we must rely on Him.
🚶♀️ Do not forget that we serve an All-powerful Lord. He stands beside us, takes part in our suffering, and holds us securely through the most formidable battles in our spiritual life.
👉🏽 How do you fight against the flesh, against the world system, and against Satan himself? How do you carry out this war in your life? Do not forget you have an edge over Satan because he is a defeated enemy. Jesus defeated him about 2000 years ago at Calvary. He must not intimidate you. But, you must not gratify the flesh and you must flee from the world system.
Shalom and Maranatha!
