An Invitation From God To Man (Isaiah 55)
🎚️ God is gracious and merciful. When man decided to obey Satan (the Old Serpent) instead of God, He would have left man to face the perdition he chose for himself. But, He decide to make provisions to bring man back to Himself.
🎚️Since the Fall of man in Geneis 3, man’s heart has been evil and has gone farther and farther away from God to the extent that God described the heart of man as desperately wicked. But God initiated man’s coming back to Him. Is He not gracious and merciful? However, this provision to come back to Him is not by force, God just appeals to man’s conscience to do so. That is why He throws the invitation to man.
🎚️Yesterday, we pictured Jesus and the cross as A Bridge to reach back to God. The question that might arise here is what actually separated man from God that he needs a bridge to reconcile and reunite with God? Sin/disobedience is the main reason.
🎚️ In the present state of man, (the state of sin and disobedience) the separation from God becomes deeper and deeper. There are words and expressions used in the Scripture that indicate the depth and width of this separation. Let us look at some of them.
📖 God is above creation and unconstrained by gravity, time, or space. He is Almighty. Furthermore, He declares, ´For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways´ (Isa. 55:9). Without question, God is above man, therefore, man needs a connection to reach Him. That connection is Jesus Christ.
📖 Distance separates us from Him. Think about Moses’ experience in the burning bush. The Lord warned him not to come too close (Ex. 3:5). In both the Terbanacle and the Temple, God warned the people of Israel not to enter the Holy of Holies except for a single specific time each year, and then only one person was allowed to enter under strict conditions (Heb. 9:7). There is a distance between man and God that cannot be breached. Jesus is the only solution to this problem.
📖 Furthermore, we are separated by light and fire (1 John 1:5; Deut. 4:24). Man’s heart is full of thick spiritual darkness. The significance of this is clear. The natural man in his natural state cannot stand in the presence of holy God, he would be consumed.
🎚️Jesus came because it is only the perfect, sinless Son of God that could reach the Father, come close to Him, and stand in His presence. One glorious thing is that in Christ, we can share in that intimacy. What a privilege!
📖 Therefore, do not decline the invitation to live made by God Himself to you. Accept this divine invitation by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart. The word Now is for the wise, as far as this invitation is concerned, but later is for the unwise. So, BE WISE!
Shalom and Maranatha!
“Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.
3 Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.
4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples,
a ruler and commander of the peoples.
5 Surely you will summon nations you know not,
and nations you do not know will come running to you,
because of the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel,
for he has endowed you with splendor.”
6 Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake their ways
and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12 You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the Lord’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
that will endure forever.”
