Why you cannot stand against your enemy

Joshua 7:10 – 12

10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. 12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.

The children of Israel had defeated many great nations. Ai was a small nation before them, they believed they needed little effort to pull down Ai, but to their surprise Ai overpowered them.

As a child of God, winning battles is not of strength but the grace of God

Even though Ai was considered “a workover” to the children of Israel, Ai overpowered them because Gods’ grace was no longer working for Israel. They were “on their own” because something evil was among them.  Israel (God’s chosen) could never make it on their own, they could never stand against an enemy unless God was with them.

Israel could never defeat Ai until they took away the unclean thing from their midst.

As children of God, you need God to stand against even the least of your enemies. Is God with you in that challenge? is there something you need to purge away by confessing to God? Have you fought and failed several times? Praise be to God! even though God didn’t go up with the children of Israel in the battle against Ai, He never left them, He rather revealed to Joshua the reason for their defeat. The fact you have not received victory over that situation does not mean God has left you, He might be only asking you to purge out that evil and fight again.

As you prepare to fight again. Ask the Holy Spirit in His mercies to search you and expose anything delaying your victory.

I tell you dear, something certain that make us unable to stand before our enemies is unforgiveness. The bible says “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us” (Matthew 6:12), this means to partner with God in a matter you must purge yourself of unforgiveness.

May God bless you as you allow the Holy Spirit search and lead you into confession and victory. Amen

Unforgiveness is like a hook, it binds you so strong to your adversaries past
