6 But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
I love the King James version of this bible passage which says: “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (New King James Version).
A secret place is a place where intimacy happens. Our God is a loving father and wants an intimate relationship with us. For intimacy to begin, all doors and windows need to be shut: meaning, all forms of distraction must give way. Most times we do not find God in the secret place because of distractions. Distractions from our phones, friends, worries, etc. God wants us to come into the secret place not to find Him but to meet Him there. The verse of focus lets us know that God dwells in the secret place.
Knowing that God dwells in the secret place is awesome. This means that when searching for God… run to the secret place, there you will certainly see Him for He dwells in the secret place.
Psalm 91:1 says “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”. Do not just visit the secret place, dwell in it.
But pastor, how can I dwell in the secret place of the Most High? Hebrews 12:2 teaches us to fix our eyes on Jesus. When you love someone you hardly can take your eyes away from that person. Intimacy helps you dwell in the secret place. You never take any step without consulting Jesus (your love), His presence becomes real to you because you know and understand He is all over you.
When man was created, God visited him every day because He desired an intimate relationship. That fellowship was destroyed when man sinned, but praise be to God, the relationship has been restored to everyone who believes in Jesus. Today, God desires we come into the secret place where we will find Him.

The secret place is a place of intimacy between you and God. You do not have to trade it for anything!
