When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[c] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
The words of the centurion are indeed shocking, I really wonder how he quickly compared the authority of Jesus with the authority a high ranked soldier has over his juniors. His words meant, “Jesus, you do not have to come with me, just say a word (command) and the sickness will go away, for I too I am a man under authority, I say to this go and he goes and to the other come and he comes. The Centurion recognized Jesus as a commander with all things under his command. Certainly, he was not wrong, Jesus gave the command, and his servant was healed.
I also wonder how the centurion realized sickness was spiritual and needed someone with spiritual authority to command it out. The Centurions understanding of authority and his faith in the man of authority made his servant well.
Jesus is the man of authority. All power in heaven and on earth has been given unto him (Matthew 28:18). This means that there is nothing in heaven or on earth greater than Jesus.
Beloved, never struggle with the devil over challenging moments in your life. As long as you have Jesus, issue out the command in his name, every knee must bow and every tongue confess. Jesus is the man of authority, as his child, his power is readily available to you.
Jesus is the man of authority, he says to one go and he goes and to the other come and he comes.
19 See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.
