The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Many years ago, a young man was sentenced to death on the cross for a crime he committed. As he hung on the cross, he acknowledged he deserved to die because of the sin he committed. While his breath was gradually fading away, he discovered an innocent man hanging on a cross beside him. He realized this man was hanging on that cross for sins he never committed, he realized, he is the lamb of God bearing the sins of the world on the cross. The dying man immediately pleaded for the salvation of his soul by calling on the lamb to remember him when he goes before the father. The lamb of God immediately assured him of his salvation.
Jesus (the lamb of God) came to earth many years ago for the sole purpose of reconciliation. His aim was to reconcile man back to God. Man sinned against God and was condemned to death. Death was the final sentence for the sin of man. But Jesus decided (not compelled by anyone) to satisfy God’s judgement on humanity by offering his blood in exchange for our lives.
The story of Jesus’s birth, death and resurrection is a mystery difficult for many to understand. However, his overwhelming presence, miracles and transformation in the lives of those who have given him a chance is a testimony of his existence and reality. I cannot imagine how great the suffering of those who rejected Jesus’s offer of salvation would be since they must face God’s punishment forever.
To escape God’s wrought, we must accept Jesus’s offer of salvation.
