Romans 6:12-14 New International Version (NIV)

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Before the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ man had no authority over sin. Man was slave to sin. Being a slave, mans’ choices were manipulated by the devil luring and persuading him to deliberately sin against God. The victory of Jesus over death gave to as many who believe freedom from the bondage of sin. We now are no longer slaves to sin but slaves to righteousness. Our mortal bodies that once submitted willingly to sin now have the freedom to choose righteousness. Apostle Paul writing to the Romans urged them to submit willingly to righteousness as their masters for the death of Christ was a symbol of their death to sin.

Dear friend, Jesus’s death on the cross marked the end of sin in your life. Sin no longer has dominion over you to control your decisions, you now have power to triumph over sin. When you are a slave to someone, you do not have a say of your own than to please that person. Now you are a slave of righteousness, you can no longer do anything else other than to please your master (Jesus who is the king of righteousness). So, do not dwell in sin saying there is nothing you can do!
