Text: 2 Thessalonians 1:9
They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
God is omnipresent, yet the Bible speaks about a presence of God meant for those who believe in him. We recall from the creation of man how sin drove Adam and Eve away from Gods presence. This tells us apart from God being omnipresent, there is yet another presence he gives.
Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him (John 14:23)
There is a presence of the Lord coming to dwell with a man, making the heart of the man his home, his abode. This presence allows us to in turn dwell under his shadow. The angel Micheal told Mary “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.” (Luke 1:19) The same good news the angel brought to Mary was meant to make us stand in the presence of God. The presence we once lost in the garden of Eden due to sin is now restored through the death and resurrection of Jesus unto those who believe.
Once you accept Jesus Christ, your spirit begins to dwell in the presence of God (“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,” Ephesians 2:6).
A time is coming when non-dwellers in the presence of the Lord will be totally separated from Gods light into a place of punishment and eternal destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9). The bible speaks of that time as the day of doom, a day of calamity. Calamity to does who do not dwell in the presence of God, for they shall be totally separated.
The peace we see today, the love we experience today, the light we see today on earth, is because of the presence of those who dwell in the presence of God. A time is coming when these dwellers will be raptured, a day when light shall be taken away from the earth. This day will definitely come. Are you worthy of standing in the presence of God?
Only those worthy of dwelling in the presence of God will see God. Jesus is the only solution to making us worthy.
Prayer: Lord, reveal the beauty of your presence to me. Help me experience more of your presence even here on earth. Amen
