Do not worry

Mathew 6:25-34

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Many people spend time focusing on less important things and neglecting the most important. For example, the foundation of a house should be of more importance than the finishing, your health should be more important than the adorning of your skin with perfume or putting on of fine cloths.

This, however, is not the case. We seem to care about our outward appearance more than our inner well being. Jesus’ teaching here emphasized the importance of the life you have over your needs, “Life is better than all these”, after all without life there would be no need for food, cloth, or shelter.

Therefore, if your life is more precious than cloth, food, or shelter, be certain the one (God) who has given you life (the primary) is able to provide the secondary needs.  For this reason, instead of worrying about these things, seek first the kingdom of God.

Remember, you are more precious to God than the birds of the air, but God takes care of them, how much more you?

So instead of worrying about that need today, let us try this:

Take some time out for yourself

Go to a quiet place, seat down, and think about your life; Think about the many time God had shown up in your situations (the songwriter says count your blessings name them one by one). Surely you will recognize how covered you are by God. Begin to praise him for that current need and tell Him you trust in His ability to save you.

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing loveand his wonderful deeds for mankind (Psalm 107:31)

God bless you
