Text: 1 Samuel 17: 38-40.
And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. 39. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. 40. And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
The giant in this context are situations, challenges, the devil brings our way.
Goliath of Gath stood as a hindrance and opposition to God’s people.
For forty days the Bible recorded that he mocked the Israelites, day and night. (1 Samuel 17:16).
We must understand that one of the reasons why we encounter oppositions, is to grow in Faith.
When Goliath became an opposition to Saul and his soldiers, it became an opportunity for David to display the majestic power of God.
When David was to fight Goliath, the Bible recorded that, He went into the battle with what he was used to (his shepherd staff and his sling).
I want to draw to our attention that David was a little shepherd boy and all the weapon He knew in terms of battle was just the shepherd staff and sling.
Many a times we forget that we are not at war with flesh and blood but principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).
As a born again Christian, you don’t wrestle the devil with worldly and carnal materials. (2 Corinthians 10:4).
You don’t fight the devil with black magic.
You don’t fight the devil with sorcery.
For he is the master and father of lie and evil.
When you confront the situation that has stood as a giant in your life and family, use the element that never fails.
There is a name given to us that is above all other names.
Use the name of JESUS. (Philippians 2: 9-11).
It is the most productive and trust worthy weapon that has never lost its power and will never loose. (Hebrews 13:6).
It doesn’t matter how long you might have been under that oppression,
Take your stand today and declare ” 1 Samuel 17: 45. Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
And David triumphed over the Giant with just a stone.
In the name of Jesus i declare victory to every battle of my life. Amen!
