Text: Hebrews 4: 2. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Have you ever wondered why in the house of God, some people are prospered spiritually amidst another group of people that are yet to experience such positive impact in their life by the same word that prospered you?
Our Bible text tells us that some were prospered by the same word that never found expression in the life of others.
We must understand that the Christian race and faith is a battlefield and warfare, not fun fare.
The Bible says God is able to do exceedingly abundantly, according to the power at work in us. Meaning the level of spiritual growth and depth we ascertain, determines the results we see. Ephesians 3:20
Today we’ll see the 4 kinds of Christians that exist in the world today.
1. The believers that do not understand the word of God when they hear it. The Bible describes it as a seed that fell on a footpath, and because they never understood the word they have received, the devil comes and snatches it away from their heart.
Most believers that fall into this category are always in the church to gossip, to show their dressing and they never pay attention to the instruction and sermon of the service. They come with their problems and still go back home with the same problems. Matthew 13:4, 19.
2. We have the believers that have failed to develop a root for the word of God in their heart. They hear the word of God, receive it with joy, but since they don’t have deep roots, the words don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they are tempted, or faced with a problem or persecution. Jesus referred to them in the parable as seeds that fell on a shallow soil with underlying rock, sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow but the plants soon wilted under the hot sun and since they never had deep roots, they died. Matthew 13:5-6, 20-21.
3. We also see the believers that are more passionate and carried away by the wealth and pleasures of life. They heard the word of God but just in a bit, the message is crowded by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. Again Jesus Christ referred to them in the parable as seeds that fell among thorns and got choked up as they grew. Matthew 13:7, 22.
4. Finally, we have the believers that got prospered by this same word. They don’t only hear the word of God, but they receive God’s word with all sincerity of heart, with understanding, they daily search the same word, meditate on the same word until the word reflects in them. In order words, they live the word.
Jesus Christ in His parable described them as seeds that fell on a fertile soil and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as been planted. Now take note that before a seed has to multiply, certain measures and sacrifice has to take place, including; constant watering, fertilizing, weeding and many more. Matthew 13:8, 23.
It’s not about God’s ability, is all about our willingness.
Let’s learn to take God’s word seriously.
The only gift Moses left with his successor Joshua was this same word of God, and it prospered him. Joshua 1:8.
The word of God has the answer to any problem of life and as we go closer to God’s word we start seeing and enjoying the realities of His word.
The secret of great success and spiritual exploit is in God’s word.
Take it out of your bookshelves, out of your car, out of your bedside, out of your bags and maul it like a hungry lion.
I pray God’s grace to study and live by the standard of God’s word be released unto you from today in Jesus’ name.
